The Morris has taken over the space left behind by Slow Club, the iconic restaurant that closed late last year. The new restaurant, at 2501 Mariposa St., is set to open October 3.

The Morris is the brainchild of renowned sommelier Paul Einbund, who ran the wine and beverage programs at Melissa Perello’s restaurants Frances and Octavia, and chef partner Gavin Schmidt, whose fine dining background includes stints at Campton Place and Daniel Patterson’s Coi.

Named after Einbund’s father, The Morris will feature a rotating 50-page wine list and extensive full bar, and a smaller menu focused on local, seasonal ingredients and whole animal cooking. Einbund and Schmidt developed the menus to reflect the spirit of Slow Club.

“We designed The Morris to be the ideal neighborhood restaurant, a place to gather in a casual and comfortable environment, but with a food and beverage program that’s both playful and sophisticated,” Einbund said in a statement. “We’ve taken the idea of an everyday restaurant and added warm service and stellar products. We want our guests to feel at ease.”
