Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden visit UCSF Mission Bay to promote cancer research


– Vice President Joe Biden has wrapped up events at UCSF Saturday, to promote the administration’s crusade against cancer.

The Vice President and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, toured high-tech research labs at the new UCSF Mission Bay campus, and then took part in a roundtable discussion to discuss the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative.

President Obama tapped the Vice President to lead a nationwide campaign to raised awareness about the $1 billion initiative, which is aimed at providing funding to accelerate the development of new ways to detect and treat cancer.

The National Cancer Institute says this year, there will be an estimated 1,685,000 new diagnosed cancer cases in the U.S. alone, and 585,690 will die from the disease.

After his visit to the UCSF Mission Bay, Vice President went to San Jose, to speak at the California Democratic Convention.
